VISION

The threats of the future cannot be solved with yesterday's technology and capacity.

Climate change, increasing forest fire risk, more complex coastal traffic and stricter environmental requirements mean that Norway and the Nordic region face a growing need for fast, flexible and precise airborne preparedness. Today, there is no national capacity that can combine early detection, tactical response and real-time situational awareness across forest fires, oil spill response, coastal surveillance and emergency response.

INNOVATION

NSAR develops AIFS:

A decision support system for airborne preparedness.

The system combines data from airborne sensors, maps and operational sources to provide real-time situational awareness, predictions and recommendations to mission leaders and crews.

The goal is to increase precision, safety and efficiency in demanding operations – initially in forest fires and oil spill response, with further application in search and rescue and environmental monitoring. AIFS is developed for air-ground interaction, and documents actions and effects through verifiable data and reports.

REAL-TIME INFORMATION

MEASURABLE EFFECT

NSAR gives the Nordics faster response and higher extinguishing effect per krone. With AIFS (AI decision support) and dedicated emergency aircraft, response time is reduced by 55% and turnaround time by 60%, while the delivered extinguishing capacity increases 3–4×. The result is fewer fires that escalate, lower overall resource use and documentable climate cuts. Based on conservative scenarios, this gives a potential annual reduction in fire emissions in the Nordics of 22–88,000 tons of CO₂, in addition to lower emissions per completed operation

WHY NSAR

Effective approach, proven methods and new technology - in Norway

Norway and the Nordic countries lack a comprehensive airborne emergency response capacity that can quickly handle forest fires, oil spill response, coastal surveillance and other acute incidents. Climate change and increasing risks are making the need even greater.

NSAR is designed to fill this gap.
We combine modern aircraft, advanced sensors and real-time decision support to give authorities and response leaders faster overview, better prioritization and more effective response.
